Concert Calendar for 2010-2011

All students in grades Y5-4 will present their learning in music class in a grade level concert. Please refer to the gray sidebar on the left column of the music home page for dates, time, and locations. Notes will be sent home with your child when his/her concert time is approaching. The Holmes Happenings Newsletter will also keep you up to date with this important information. As always, please feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Honors Choir for 2010-2011

Honors Choir is a special singing group for 3rd and 4th grade students. We meet on Friday mornings at 8:00am before school starts. Our first rehearsal will be in October (exact date to be published soon). Honors Choir is open to any 3rd or 4th grader who loves to sing! We have a fun year planned for choir this year. Highlights include: Christmas caroling at area nursing homes in December, a performance with the Jeffers Honors Choir and Spring Lake High School Choir in February, and other special events! Look for sign-up/permission forms coming home soon!

Fourth Grade Preview for 2010-2011

Be ready to work hard and have fun in music this year. Our main focus is playing the recorder and I know you guys will be great! Each week, the fourth grade classes compete to earn the GOLDEN RECORDER. The class who works hard, meets expectations, and is respectful earns this award. The 4th grade teachers LOVE it when their class earns GOLDEN RECORDER so GO FOR THE GOLD! We will also be playing a new monthly clue game ( like last year’s “Where in the World” game ). It is called “Time Traveler.” Get ready to go back in time and learn about American music and culture in the 20th century!

Third Grade Preview for 2010-2011

Welcome wonderful third graders! We are going to have a great year in music. Here are some things you can expect to do this year: Our Michigan concert in May ( lots of songs and skits ), singing and playing ostinatos ( os – ta- WHAT – os?), learning more about decoding the language of music, creating your own music, and some new music games. We also have a new monthly clue game for prizes this year ( like last year’s “Where in The World” game). It is called “Time Traveler.” Get ready to go back in time and learn about American music and culture!

Second Grade Preview for 2010-2011

We are going to have an amazing year in 2nd grade music class! In December, we will present a Christmas program called “The Elves Impersonator.” Throughout the rest of the year, we will sing, play games, play xylophones, create our own music, and learn more about decoding the written language of music. We will also play our new monthly clue game for prizes – “Time Traveler!” Get ready to go back in time and learn about America through its music!

Welcome Back Fabulous First Graders!

I hope everyone had a great summer! First graders will be doing a lot of neat things in music this year. Our class meets for 50 minutes – WOW! – twice as much time as last year! We will start off our year exploring musical opposites. Children will learn by singing, playing classroom percussion and melody instruments, and by doing A LOT of movement and games. Your child will also be playing a game called “Time Traveler.” All Holmes 1st – 4th graders will be playing. We will start this game the second week of school. Ask your child about it! Please check back often for updates on what we are doing in music class!
