The 12 Days of Christmas - I Want The World To Be
December 7, 2008
The third graders have been creating new lyrics (words) for the tune “12 Days of Christmas.” The new song starts: “On the 1st day of Christmas, I want the world to be a better place for you and me.” Ask your child to share some verses from class - they are fabulous!
Melody lines in Third Grade songs
November 16, 2008
We have been learning about pitches and melodies. Melodies in music are like lines in art! They can go up (get higher), stay the same, or go down (get lower). We have had fun singing and moving to melodies in the songs “Mary Mack,” “Long Legged Sailor,” and “Rocky Mountain.”
Which witch? Musical choices!
October 27, 2008
The third graders have been making musical choices and playing ostinatos (a repeated musical pattern) with a song and poem for Halloween. In “Which Witch” students learned an ostinato to play on the bells as an accompaniment to our song. Students also chose the percussion instrument they wanted for representing certain words in a poem. Their choices were very interesting! Then the classes created an arrangement of singing, playing, and saying - lots of musical choices!
Rhythm Pumpkin Patch!
October 12, 2008
The third graders have each created rhythm pumpkins using notes we know. These will be displayed in the hall by the office during conference week. Look for your child’s pumpkin and ask him or her to clap and say their rhythm for you.
Off and running in 3rd grade music!
September 16, 2008
The third graders have been enjoying showing steady beat by playing xylophones, metallophones, and glockenspiels (bells). Ask your 3rd grader about mail delivery in music class and about the “healthy food choice” song.
Ready For A Great Year!
August 27, 2008
Welcome back wonderful 3rd graders! Here are some of the things we will be doing in music this year: our spring concert in May (lots of Michigan songs and skits!), composing our own music, singing and playing rounds and ostinatos (what in the world are those?), playing lots of music games - like Mystery Composer!
