5th Grade ENCORE Preview

Greetings 5th grade students and families! My name is Mrs. Ireland and I am the general music ENCORE teacher for 5th grade at SLIS. I am looking forward to a great 2008-2009 school year!

Each class will have general music every day for approximately 7 weeks, starting in October. I will post updates about what we are doing in class to this page. Each ENCORE general music rotation will conclude with a short in-class informal performance. The time for each performance will be 11:30am and dates will be announced at the beginning of each 7 week rotation. Check this page frequently when your child has music for his/her ENCORE rotation.

At the end of the ENCORE music rotation,you will receive a report in the mail from me with the details about your child’s work on class projects and participation. Please contact me if you have questions.

Fourth Grade Preview

Welcome back fantastic fourth graders! Did anyone practice recorder over the summer? I did! I learned lots of new music for us to play on our recorders together. We will participate in the LinkUp program with the WestShore Symphony Orchestra in Muskegon this year. Our spring concert with the 3rd graders will include recorder music as well as Michigan songs and skits. Also, get ready for something new - Mystery Composer!

Ready For A Great Year!

Here are some of the things we will be doing in music this year: our spring concert in May (lots of Michigan songs and skits!), composing our own music, singing and playing rounds and ostinatos (what in the world are those?), playing lots of music games - like Mystery Composer!
